The North Van Police Welcome us to their charity fundraiser
Car wash [which was random coincidence] with a fire hose!

We paused down by the river and took a moment to notice
the variety of lovely cyclists present. There were all types. Kooky Dinosaurs
to families with kids. The fact that so many kids came a long was encouraging
and shows how people think of cycling across the bridge as very safe and
fun as long as it's done right and a whole lane sure made these folks happy!

We held up our bikes for a victory cheer (You won't see
motorists holding their vehicles over their heads) and then headed back
across the bridge in another safe and delightful manner. This time we took
2 lanes which was even better though the police didn't help so much so
there was a little conflict but that sorted itself out quickly and fun
was had by all!

We left the bridge and traffic returned to its dismal ways.

Many thanks so the marshalls and organisers
(far left) who made this ride a sucess
and all those 350 crazy cyclists who came
out in the foul weather to make the deeply
"radical" statment that safe bike facilities are
urgently required.

After the ride some went over the also dangerous and inadequate
Burrard St. Bridge. That is another facility in desperate need of real
bike facilities.
